Not My Favourite

Spring Leaves is all finished:

And I have to be honest,

I'm not a huge fan of it.

I don't think it's a fault with the pattern at all, I think it's all me.

It started with the ordering of the yarn. I didn't have a project in mind when I ordered it, just knew that I was loving dying. When I received the parcel, I realised that I had misread the information. I thought it was a heavy laceweight with almost 700 yards to 100 grams. Turns out it was a light weight yarn with almost 700 yards to 50 grams.

Never mind, I thought, I could still use it for something, so I set about dying. I have been wanting to try using Dr Oetker food dye for a while. Not only did I have a lot of it in my cupboard from baking, it's easier to get hold of in the UK than Kool Aid. It worked well and the colour is really saturated. Only problem is, it's not the colour I was looking for. I wanted a more bluey-green and this is more mint. I tired to over dye it with a blue, but it just wouldn't take.

Still, when the Three Countries Shawl KAL group on Ravelry decided to use the Spring Leaves pattern as their April - June KAL, I thought immediately of this yarn. I thought the green would work well with the leaf-y pattern and it was spring-like.

Trouble is, I still can't get over that colour. I'm sure it's a nice colour, I just can't get over it not being what I wanted.

For some FO's people probably do like, have a look at Tami's Amis.

You did a gorgeous job on the shawl and while I think that a teal/green would have been gorgeous, it's very hard to get with food dyes!
Do you think going very dark green would help you like it more? From the pics, it looks like you'll only be able to go a darker color...

Awwww, I think it's gorgeous and I LOVE the color! I agree with P'cess. Do you think you'd like it more if it was darker? It really is beautiful!

I definitely think it would be better in a darker green - it looked ok when it was soaked for instance. That was what I was aiming for when I tried to overdye with the blue.

To be honest, it's a little lighter than it looks in these pictures (I was getting close to the true colour when my camera batteries died).

Well, if you don't want it, can I have it? =D I think it's absolutely astounding, and the color it has combined with the leaves gives it a sort of jungle canopy look. :)

Thats such a shame you don't like it, I think its beautiful! You did a really good job. Maybe you could give it as a present to someone, I'm sure they would love it as its stunning!

I have considered giving it away, but I kind of hate the idea of saying 'here, I don't like this - you have it' (obviously I wouldn't put it like this, but it would feel like it).

I really hope you can achieve a colour you like as the work that has gone into deserves to be loved x

The shawl is so beautiful. It is hard when you have a vision of how a project will turn out and it fails to live up to the vision. I think that the green is lovely and goes perfectly with the lace pattern.

You can tell me you don't like it all you want, I'll still love it. I can give this shawl a home if you want.......but I am sorry you didn't end up with something you liked, that's just no fun after all that hard work.
